406 oil pan problems

I am nearing the nd of my 406 SBC project, and I have encountered an unexpected problem. The oil pan does not appear to be in contact with the molded pan gasket at the front adjacent to the timing cover. Can anyone answer this problem?

I am using Milodon oil pan 30700
Fel-Pro molded one piece gasket 1885
and GM timing cover 10243967

Thanks, Andy

The Fel-Pro 1885 is for pans using the thin front seal. You probably need a Fel-Pro 1880 for the thick front seal pan.

You are correct, the 1880 did the trick. It fit perfectly!

I wonder what applications the 1885 fits? Thick vs thin front seal?

The thickness of the front seal is the only difference. I don't know what the difference in application was between the two.

I can't imagine an application that would use the thin front seal gasket. But I will try to find out and post the info.

Most aftermarket pans use the thick seal, but somewhere I've got a list of P/Ns for GM pans that used the thin seal.

I had it backwards. I've got 360010, 360409 and 465221 using the thick seal.
