More out of a 350 H.O. TPI

OK well I need to pull about 425HP out of a 350 H.O. with a standard TPI intake.

Now would this get me there?

GM Fastburn Heads
LT4 Hot Cam
Port Polish TPI

Obviously the little things that go with all of the above.... I fell like I am missing something...

I don't think you can make that much power naturally aspirated with the stock tpi. You'd have to make it at 5000rpm max, which is gonna be impossible without a power adder.

Well I was really basing it on the following:

http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/1578...rip-Engine.htm

I figured with the bigger heads, port and polish, and hot cam should pull slightly more... also a larger throttle body

Still, the fact of the matter is, you can pull all the air you want it, but if what youre pulling it through is more repesenting of a coffee stir straw than a slurpee straw, you won't get very far. And a larger TB won't do anything when the parts behind the TB are what are hindering you.

Look into an LT1 intake modified for the Gen. 1 SBC. if you are after saving a few pennies while still getting a viable bang for the buck.

Well I want the car to appear stock even after opening the hood. So TPI intake has to stay. So what needs ot be done to solve this problem to bump the power rating a little more?

Gotta be away to squeeze just a little more out of that engine...if not I will just scrap the project and go with a 430 ramjet the same as in the RS. Anyone want a 350 H.O. ?

There really is no way to make that much power with tpi. The whole tpi setup is just completely wrong for performance. The length, size and shape are all wrong. It is totally maxed out at 5000rpm. No way around it, the runner length was "tuned" to be like that.

See how that linked tpi engine makes max torque and hp at 4200rpm?

pull off the entire tpi setup slap down a new manifold with a carb on top. I used to play with nothing but fuel injected tuner cars. It is just too expensive to stick with stock fuel injection and produce power without some sort of F.I. I know I'd rather tune a carb. Just my 2 cents.

And that was w/a Vortec base, Edelbrock runners, and a 52 mm TB.

You said you wanted "a standard TPI intake", which I took to mean stock. Either way, I don't see you getting that power NA either w/TPI.

IMO, that's a 400 hp engine that makes 357 hp because of the intake.

Well i've looked into this kind of setup myself, but for starters, don't expect to get 350rwhp out of a TPI setup. If you want that kind of HP switch to a hsr or miniram.

However, everyone above is right. On a 350 when you are trying to suck air down through those long tube runners, you'll be looking at serious torque, not so much horsepower. Thats what the TPI system is designed for, makes lotsa TQ but restricts HP.

If you still want it to "look" stock, port the intake plenum as much as possible, get a set of the arizona speed & marine runners that are extrude honed best possible, get the vortech base, have that extrude honed, get a bigger MAF like a granetelli and 52mm TB from holley or BBK. Get 24-26lb injectors, get the block bored to accept a 383 rotating assembly to match, and possibly bump up the compression from 9.3:1 to 9.8:1 or 10:1 by getting some smaller combustion chambers on the heads with flat top pistons or getting dished pistons. Trickflow's 23 degree heads with the 195cc intake will allow a direct bolt on instead of a new vortech intake manifold. Also you will need the headers and exhaust system to match up to this, Hooker's 1 3/4" or SLPs emission legal 1 3/4" with 3 inch cat back.

This whole setup will look nice(provided you clean up the engine bay) , sound nice and will give you a boat load of low end grunt.

Friend of mine from a local club was 271.3RWHP but 400.1RWTQ on a mild cammed 383 with the stock TPI intake with no porting or anything done.

You have the right ideas on how to get more power out of the engine, but to make it look stock, you've got a lot of work and a lot of $$$$ to make it happen.

Good luck!

You won't make 435 hp out of a TPI, but you can make 300 hp and 450 ft lbs tq fairly easily.
