No particular mystery.

http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

333882.....74-80...350/400......76cc chambers

Basically large chamber, low compression, smog-era heads.

i got them for free at work, so no complaints there. Are these doable for performance purposes? I allready have to get them machined and everything to use them so i could gain some compression there and then also on the piston side of things i could gain alott. looking for 10.00-10.50 to 1 in the finished product.

so if i total 650 bucks in work would they come out ahead of vortecs??

No way, no how. To get 10:1 CR would require domed pistons. Flow and chamber design all favor Vortecs.

You got your money's worth with those heads. David Vizard apparently likes them, but something tells me you don't have his budget.

If I had to use a smog head, there are much better factory castings to pick from. As mentioned above, they're probably cracked. 882 castings are a very thin casting and prone to cracking.

At least the price was right.
Worst of the worst.

Give them away to someone else that wants to go slow(er).

Find a small chamber hi perf casting.

Those may not be cracked. The larger valve versions of those heads like to crack between the seat areas. I wouldnt try and put bigger valves on them and dont waste too much on them. Save your money for something better.

That will get you a brand new set of vortecs from Scoggin Dickey with the spring seats and valve guides already machined to accept more lift. You could then do a mild port job to clear up the pockets and gain a little more. Best bang for your buck.

There's a guy in the classifieds on www.sethirdgen.org selling a set of slightly used World Products SR torquers cheap as of 8-19-05. Like $300 and they are complete with good springs and everything.
