cold starts suck!!!

ok heres the deal. I go to start my car in morning and it just turns and turns over. After about turning it over for about 20 times it will start. My fuel pump primes and all that good stuff. I do have spark and everything. Once its running it runs pretty good. This is the thing though if I dont feel like letting it turn over and over I can spray starter fluid stuff in throttle body and it cranks right up.

since it starts when you put that fluid int there i could be too lean at start up, the cold start up injector might be cloged if you have one

is that the sensor thats in front of the manifold? Cause if it is then I changed that. When I was changing it like a week ago I got water all over the connector< i dunno if that matter or not, but just thought I would let u know.

89+ don't have a cold start injector, and im guess thats what he has, because of his user name, but if its 88, 87 then u will have one. does anyone know if there is a relay or anythign for main injector enrichment for 89+ TPI's?

What is your fuel pressure set at? Also...check for vacuum leaks. Do you have a stock, or custom eprom?

I'm having the same problem. But its a 87 2.8 mpfi ho. Is that temp sensor the one that controls the gauge? Cause my temp gauge don't work but if I have the dash apart I can move the needle down and start the car and it pegs and sticks but if i knock it back down while still running it sits at like well 150-160 I suppose, then I shut off and restart and same thing it pegs and sticks. Is there supposed to be a needle stoping it? My car is pulling the usual code 34 which leads to the maf but I do the tap while running and it wont stutter.

for youyr temp guage the sensor is on the drivers side head. There is also a sensor that goes into the manifold for the temp of the water, but thats for the computer not the guage, If it pegs the wire for the sensor may be off of it and grounding on something else. Happen to me once.

Just my guess...but you say it starts when you use starting fluid? Should indicate you're not getting fuel.

When the engine is cranking over, and she fires off, does it run smoothly? If so, I'd be wondering if the fuel pump is priming the rails when you turn the key on, because it seems to me that what's occurring is as you're cranking the engine over, the oil pressure switch is getting pressure, after 15-20 cranks there's sufficient pressure to close the switch and send the voltage to the pump.

If this is the case, the possible causes could be the FP relay, the wiring, or the ECM.

Best way to start diagnosing would be to use a FP gauge and a DMM.

yeah I am gonna invest in a fp guage soon so i can test it. Once its running it runs smoothly so I dunno. Could it be the relay even if it runs smoothly when it gets started. Its like after it sits for more than 6 or 7 hours it takes forever to start. I know the fuel pump primes, but maybe its not getting to the rail.
