Changed my intake manifold gasket and now im misfiring/clanking

so i was leaking coolant from my intake manifold gasket so i decided to change it, when i put everything back together my car sounded like it was misfiring and i heard this very loud clanking noise.

I talked to my family's mechanic and he said that i should check my firing order then check my timing.

I really dont want to have to pull my distributer again, it was a pain in the ***, but i think my timing is off.

is there something else it could be or am i pretty much stuck redoing my timing,

is there an easier ay of redoing my timing? beside pulling the distrib. and puting at TDC, and completely redoing

also, my car is still getting really hot during driving. Although i only drove it for about 10 minutes stop/go driving it got almost to the red.

also she cuts off when i put her in reverse or drive from park

help please

o i checked my firing order and it was alright, but when i reset my timing i must have messed up cause my enbgine just turned over and made a few popping noises. so i think something is wrong

can someone give me a how to on timing, or give me a link i tried a search but didnt find what i was looking for

to get TDC where should the notch lin up on the timing clip thing. Also where should the rotor point when reinstaling the distributer

also is there an easier way of arjusting the distrib then pulling off the egr valve and then taking for freakin ever to loosen the dist old down bolt with a wrench.

cause ive pulled the egr off about 10 times now, just trying to get this thing to fire

turn the crank till the notch on the balancer lines up with 0* on the pointer. The dist should be inserted so the rotor points about 45* to the forward drivers side of the car. line up the #1 wire on the cap to the rotor and fire away.

If your blowing fire out the intake timings 180* out pull dist and put it in 180* from where it was.

Maybe someone else has better directions and maybe a drawing.

Clanking? Kinda sounds like something got dropped down a intake port and into a cylinder. Hope I'm wrong about this.

If it has the factory timing cover with the tacked on timing tab, there are "v" shaped notches cut into it to represent timing marks. The largest notch, closest to the driver's side is "0".

If it doesn't have notches, then "0" should be the heaviest line scribed into the tab.

hey i wanted to thank all of you who helped me, i reset my timing like how ya told me, and i found the 0, it took some carb cleaner and some engine degreaser, but i saw it, i reset my distributor like you guys said. The book i had said to put the rotor between 1 and 8, and i was like wtf??

so i fixed my timing and now she sounds better then ever, i think she sounds even better then before i did everything to her. And the clanking went away too, it would sometimes clank before i started so the timing fixed that tooThe best part was it only took me about 20 minutes to completely redo the timing. So now i need to go do some victory dougnuts before work

-THANKS
