car shuts down at 115, with a performance chip

Maybe anyone could help me with this little question, I went and finally bought a performance chip for my 91 RS by hypertech, and i thought that was supposed to cancel out my governor but maybe i am wrong. Well i just wanted to see if anyone knew the scematics on how to bypass the governor.
thanks for any help!!

I was told by the rep that it would be extra to have the speed limiter removed. Like firbird said though there is a way to do it yourself.

Dan,

Yet another reason to shop for aftermarket PROMs somewhere other than HyperTech. Because of liability, they maintain the speed limiter programming. If you had purchased the PROM for a car with the 16" wheels, you would not have had a speed limiter (fuel cutoff) programmed at 118 MPH. The fuel cutoff for cars with the RPO options PW7 / QDZ, the fuel cutoff would be programmed at 254 MPH (the maximum setting of the cutoff parameter).

I think I have the same chip as you (in my 91 Formula). Hypertech says that they leave the cutoff speed the same as stock, which is supposed to be just below the speed rating of your stock tires (118 for the "R" tires, I think).

I tried it out, just for grins, anyway - kind of a bummer to have the computer cut off your fuel like that, huh? Oh, well... I don't need to drive around over 110 mph anyway (I don't exactly have a 12-13 second car).

My guess is you need to burn your own chip (or have somebody burn you a custom chip) to change this.

Ok guys, this is just another Hypercrap ripoff and another reason for burning your own chips. I just returned from a morning drive which was limited to 5200 rpm at 130 plus. 4th gear.

This cool air today makes for great running.

It's Hypertech not Hypercrap.
Hypertech chips come with the top speed limiter at stock mph, it's more $$ to get it removed. It doesn't matter what tire size you have either. Hell my Formula came with ZR50 Goodyears on it but stock limiter was still around 110mph. Another good tip is to order factory direct so you can order by chip/ecu # too.

Nope, its Hypercrap.

I made a post on the TBI board a few months ago when I found out their chips dont remove the speed limiter. You need a custom chip to do that.

Cody,

You're right on both counts. The paperweight on my desk doesn't read "Hypercrap". I think it is "HyperScrap". I actually do better with the upgraded factory GM PROM than I did with the ThermoMaster PROM.

And the tire size doesn't matter, but the speed rating of the tires as delivered from the factory does matter. If the car was delivered with "Z" rated tires of any size from the factory, the fuel cutoff parameter was entered as "254". It's just most common to have the "Z" tires delivered as the 245/50-16 size. If your Formula 350 TPI was delivered from the FACTORY (not the dealer) with Gatorbacks, they screwed up. It happens.

I admit hyper_ _ _ _ whatever is funny but I have tried JET,Performance Resource,Fastchip,Superchip with no avail Hypertech worked good in my91 RS auto and in my car now. My car is a TBI Formula and it came with the Gatorbacks and the 110 speed limiter. All WS6 and IROC's with 16's came with Gatorbacks from the factory but the TBI cars came with the 110mph limiter.

Just put that switch in that disables disconnects the vss from the computer. just flick it when you are on a really long straight road. I may set a check code when the vss is disabled though. I thought I had read a tech article on it.
