Name that smell?
Help!
I am getting a really bad smell that smells like burning plastic... But nothing is burning no smoke and I only smell it when we are stopped and there is wind or when my fan motor is on... Anyone have any ideas.. power steering fluid, tranny fluid... I have no ideas and cant see anything leaking. Also I have a 1988 SC Convert that I am doing the 4th gen changeover in so if anyone can help me there too I would appreciate it.

Could be a number of things.. But plastic bags like to find ways to cling to catalytic converters, so it's worth checking out.
A friend of mine has an electrical problem where if he turns the AC to the Off position, it'll start smoking. Maybe you have something similar.

Damn! Your into some serious stuff there. This thing is a pain, biggest part being a convertible and some of the parts are missing. I am missing the latch and most of the components so a "shoestring" gets pulled to open the hatch. I got the same thing, cheap junky paint job, I got some chips where I can still see the original stuff that the old owner had. You asking for a lot with that LT-1 Swap! It's the cheapest way to get that much power, I debated the idea too, but then figure out all the suspension stuff and you know that it ain't going to be cheap. Tbhe idea of seeing another one would be cool. Where are u at anyway? I'm in the east bay area up north, u? I'm 16 so considering my car is still damn good. It's the "Ghetto Pimp Mobile." I have some cheapo 12's and soon I hope for some good kicker comps and a descent amp and crossover. Check it out on the pictures of http://crustynun.cjb.net

Do you have headers? If so, I'm betting it's the headers heating up the foam insulation on the a/c box on the fire wall.

Everytime I shut my car off and there is some sort of breeze I can smell plastic burning. I was looking one time and was bent right over the alternator and discovered thats where the smell is coming from...the stupid plastic rings are burning up... It probably isnt your problem but, something to look into I guess.

Shotgun it is really prevalent when I stop right after it has been driven, but i think we have come to the conclusion that the leak in my power steering fluid is leaking onto the exhaust manifold and voila we have smell... but I cant be for sure. Oh well, I am about to go through my entire engine, add a new cam, and intake, and do the heater delete valve option where the heater will still work.
