350 + tranny in an 84 Olds Delta 88... swapable?

Ok, my friend goes through cars like crazy. After having a tire blow out on his Turbo MR2 and wrecking it, he got a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88.

Assuming that when this car goes the engine and tranny are still in good shape, could I take it from him and swap it into my SC? It's a carbed engine, so I doubt there would be much hassle with a computer...

If the tranny won't fit under the car, would a TH 700R4 for a V8 bolt up? Are there any other details that you guys can offer... I figured GM is GM, shouldn't be a problem, but still I figured I'd ask the experts...

the olds will have a 307 not a 350, also it will fit, but will need to find or drill custom holes for the motor mounts, also you will need an adaper plate for the engine to fit the trans you have now, persoanlly not worth it, i would save up for a 350 or bigger engine.

All F-bodies used the same cross members so you will just need to find the holes for V8 motor mounts and get the new mounts as well. The transmission in the Olds is most likely a 200-4R. You would need to find a V8 700-R4 to make this swap work. Also, is the Olds carburetor computer controlled? If yes, you'll either need an engine harness from a carbeb V8 F-body or just ditch the Q-Jet for a Holley or other non-cc carb of choice.

The engine in the Olds will be the Olds 307. It's really weak; my wife had a 84 Lesabre (same car as the Olds) with one, it was absolutely pitiful; she had that right after a 84 Caprice with a Lg4 (again, same car) and it probably would have ben 1½ seconds faster than the Buick in the 1320.

It is a computer-controlled carb, so you would have to concern yourself with the computer; but that should be easy, just get all that stuff out of the other car.

Still, for as much trouble and work and expense as an engine swap always is, that one is a whole lot of maze with very little cheese. Personally I don't think it's a particularly wise plan. Nothing will bolt up to the car, you'll have to do a bunch of fabrication; exhaust will be a pain from Hell; and when you get done, the LG4 cars will still stomp you.

How can I tell? Can I run his VIN? Is there a stedfast rule like "8th digit "n" is 350" that I can go by? He says the engine looks diffrent than the 307 he had before (before the turbo MR2, after the turbo mR2, if that makes sense)... I do agree, it looks different, the Accumulator is in a familiar Chevy spot... The only thing that doesn't look 350'ish is the fan is constantly running, it's not electric like ours... The dealer didn't tell him what engine it was, and he's got nothing saying it's a 350, he just assumed so...

Can someone give me some way to verify what engine my friend has???
