Car Stalls when I brake hard

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem. When I brake hard you can see the needle move torwards the "E". When my tank is about 1/4 full is when it starts to stall due to full not getting to the pump.
Is there a way to corect this problem so that I can brake hard and still have fuel supplied to the pump? By the way it is a 91' Camaro with TBI.

I would love an answer to this also, I have the same problem, and it REALLY pisses me off.

You could keep you tank at least half full if your not racing. Especialy in the winter the extra weight in the rear will help.

Obviously I can keep my tank half full. But I've never had a problem with previous cars with running the tank past the 1/4 mark. Plus always haveing to keep it filled half way means I have to stop at the pump more often, and its aggrivating. I'm just looking for a cure not a solution.

I've heard that some of the later model thirdgens are supposed to have fuel tanks with baffles around the pump. I don't know if only Z-28s have these tanks or if they were standard issue on all late model thirdgens. And yes I have also noticed the problem a time or two.

If he has a 91, he already has the "good" gas tank.

That's sort of what I was wondering if maybe the pump was getting ready to go. Or if maybe the tank wasn't designed right such as putting in a proper baffle.
I was wondering if it was the tank could I install a fuel tank baffle to correct this problem?

My car is also a 91' with only 55,000 miles on it so I've kind of ruled out that it might be the fuel pump. It may just be the design of the tank.

Here's a couple of ideas; long shots though. There's a recall out for fuel tanks on thirdgens(where the filler neck meets the tank leaks can occur; or something to that effect). Well, If the car was taken in for the recall and a new tank was installed would the new tank have the baffles?

The only other thing that I can think of is that what happens to fuel(in the fuel tank) during braking/cornering could also be happening in the intake manifold, carb, throttle body, intake ports, etc.. The G-forces that occur during braking/cornering could be interupting the flow of fuel. That's just a guess though.

What Pablo said. Same thing here. Changed fuel pump and now I can auto-cross on empty if I so desire.

Not sure if this is going to help, but the previous owner of my car against the SCCA showroom stock rules modified my 1LE gastank with additional baffling to ensure fueling on a low tank in high-g situation. I am assuming he did this becuase he was having the same problem. Now I can hard accelerate into a turn and slam on the brakes and I have no problems with fuel. However I hope for your sake their is a simpler solution then redoing the gas tank. So I guess if you are consider baffling your gas tank, I can testify it works.

Running with more fuel in your tank doesn't just help starvation, it helps the pump in two ways:

1. Running a pump dry helps to burn it out

2. The best way for the pump to stay cool is to have it immersed in gas, instead of hanging alone in an empty tank- and heat will burn a pump ot.

For those of you who said that replacing the fuel pump helped, did you replace it with a stock unit or a high performance type?
And what about a fuel tank sump, would this help in keeping fuel supplied to the pump?
