84 Z28 questions

I hope this is in the right forum. I am going to check out a 84 Z28 pretty soon I hope. It has a 350, auto, and 83K miles. He is asking 700 bucks and says no rot and in pretty good shape overall. I would prefer a manual but I figure I will get more performance than I need with the 350 and auotmatic.

I am new to the camaro thing and dont know a whole lot about this scene yet. I am not looking to be a total idiot driving this thing but I want to be able to smoke the tires a bit and have a nice rumblin exhaust, and be an idiot at times. I am a pretty good mechanic working on dirt bike, quads, skis etc. MY dad has lots of previous camaro expience from his day back in the 60's. I am in high school and no job right now but I find ways to get money somehow. What kinda gas milage would I expect to get? Would this car suit me?
Anyone have any general opinions about this year model , anything? thanks everyone

One thing to check would be if it really has a 350. It would have had a 305 from the factory.

I agree with what Apeiron said, but if it's a decent running 305, it still might be worth 700.

What I've found on mine:
Stock gages are junk - not to be trusted.
The windows rattle amoung other things.
Power windows are comically slow, if they work at all.

- But I still like it!

for 700 if it is running decent and not in to bad of condition, then it is a decent price.. but yea. check and make sure it is a 350.... since the best you could get then was the 305 HO L69

It was probably a standard z28 with the 305/700r4 since most of the HO's had the 5 spd. Replace the weather stripping, and the triangle things. tighten everything down.... and you should be good to go..

Hockey sticks I call them. Never ever heard an official name so we all get to make up our own name!

I have the part name here.... somewhere.. lol.. but those are ussually a source for noise in these carts. along with the weather stripping... another source of noise is the screen on the cowl of the car.. it likes to rattle.

When you say replace the triangle things or hockey sticks...they make noise?? Or does replacing them keep the windows from rattling?

Who sells them?

keeps the window from rattleing and also it seals that area so you are not getting the wind sucking noise when you are going down the road.. also helps in the winter because the car will stay warmer... the best thing really. is if it has the original weather stripping on the car is to replace all of it now.. that stuff can no longer do what it was made for

Go to Year one or one of the sponsers... they tend to have that stuff i think. I know year one does. I have a running account with them lol

I should replace all the weather stripping in my '84, only has a very slight drip on the drivers side but it just looks awful.

OK - Thanks! I'll look into this more. The only weatherstrip I've replaced so far is the T-top strips, which are a HUGE ripoff IMO at 204 bucks a set.

I'm sure the actual cost to make the stupid things is below 20 bucks. Talk about outrageous markups!

I'm not rich enough to have an account at Year One, but I'll see what's out there.

i am not rich either.. lol.. But I do order at least 200$ a month through them... and I call them about a good deal of stuff.. Although my last purchase was $700.... thier prices are pretty fair for what they have. My recommendation is to call them up and jsut have them send you a catalog for the camaro.. you will be very happy when you get that book.. it has more parts in it than thier site does
