open element installation trouble

Hey, I just got my Comp Cams open element air filter the other day, and here is my problem. The base plate for it will not clear my plug wires at the distributer. I have a performer intake manifold and a stock distributer. The carb is a qjet. The element is 14x3. Anybody else have this problem with their filter? Anybody have a solution? Thanks.

is your element droped, you might have to buy a spacer. make sure not to ground out your coil or your ecm will be cooked

They make offset open element filters for this. Basically, the hole that the fits around the carb is closer to the edge of the metal disk than the center, so the whole thing is shifted forward a few inches.

Yea, I had to do the same thing. Get a 1in spacer and you should be set.

I have the GM drop base air cleaner. 65/70
Z28, corvette.
Your comp cams air cleaner is fashioned
after this one. Mine comes real close
to the HEI distributor cap, right at the back. I flattened the edge of the base and turned the wires away from the filter, to add a little more clearance. I'm useing the Performer RPM Vortec and a Holley carb.
