Car stops when put in drive at idle?

I just got done with my engine upgrades, and got most the bugs straightened out. As you may have seen from posts these last few days - I had some initial problems, but they are worked out now.
So, the only problem left is that the car does not want to run at idle while in drive or reverse. This especially is a problem when slowing down towards a stop sign or light etc.
The timing is set at 9°.
The upgrades done include pretty much everything in the sig.
What can I do to get this problem straight??

Thanks for any and all inputs!!

Ken

I would check to make sure your TC lockup is working properly.

My '85 Z28 used to do this also. It turned out to be a bad Idle Air Control valve. Of course I'm assuming you have TPI.

Mark A. Shields,
Well, I would like to think that the TC isn't the problem - especially since it was working perfectly fine until the mods and the only thing done to the trans is oil/filter.
So, I do think it is more related to the swap of heads/cam/headers/catback/runners/plenum ?

RSFreak,
Yes, I do have TPI - where is the Idle Air Control Valve located, and is there a way I can test it?

Thanks guys!

Ken, the TC lockup could be the problem, does the car shake or wier vibrations before it dies. If so then It is the TC lockup if not then it could be the IAC. Your supposed to be able to test the IAC's voltage (14.2) but as how to test it I'll leave it to a TPI guy.

I can't say I've noticed any vibration. If the TC is the problem, would it need to be replaced, or is it something that needs to be adjusted?
When the engine stops it is just winding down on the rpms until it just stops. I can prevent it from stopping by just keeping the foot lightly on the throttle though, if that makes a difference to wether or not the TC is the problem?

Thanks again,

Ken

IAC valve is in the side of the throttle body. Has a huge hex on it (11/16th if I remember right).
You can tell if it's the TC if it acts exactly like a manual car does when you brake to a stop and don't depress the clutch.

Or just get up to like 55mph, in OD. Slightly tap the breaks the rpms should jump up a couple hundred rpms.
