Ok well I have another dang idle problem. Ok I just replace the IAC and the TPS. I did what the tech aticle says to do to set the idle with the IAC. Ok well I set it and it idles good runs good and all. I go drive around for about 20-30 minutes. When I get home I turn it off and turn it back on to see how it idles. The damn thing idles at 1000 in drive and 1500 in Neutral. It was all running good until I turned the engine off. oh ya I have a 89 Z with 350 TPI. Please help me because this is really pissing me off.

Hi.
I had a same problem after I cleaned my throttle body, plenum, runners.
I found that the throttle cable would not go all the way back (touch that little screw). So i just lubricated that spring, shaft and used a spring to help bring the throttle plate back.
Just check this: When your car idles high open your hood and push the throttle plate back towards that screw.
If that what causes your high idle then you got it.
I also found a small vacuum leak at one of the hoses and found that the cruise controll cable was too tight so I adjusted that too.
After I did all that the idle was perfect.
After you do all that check your TPS and reset IAC again.
I hope this helps.

I've already checked for throttle sticking and all that. I know thats not it. I just dont know what to do anymore cause I have done the IAC thign about 3 times not and it does the same thing as soon as I shut the engine off. Oh ya by the way I get a check engine light when the IAC is unplugged.
I am having the same problem I plan on fixing the problem this way.
1)one gallon of gasoline.
2)one match.
3)spread gasoline on car and use match to ignite.
Seriously I replaced my tps today and it seemed to be better. My origional tps was reading correctly but was obviously not sending the signal to the computer correctly.I think my IAC is not seating correctly and I just got through putting the tb back on and all the IAC ports are clean as a whistle.

ok thanx y'all I finally got it to work. What I was doing wrong was when I plugged the IAC back in I adjusted that throttle screw thing way up so it would idle and that was my problem. I had to just barly get it running at 400-500 minium, but now its finally good its idling at about 700 in drive...thank thank you I feel so much happier now.
