What are the symptoms of a starter not engauging, (everything tested o.k........)
Well, i finally finished the ignition switch, and that wasnt the cause of my car not starting. It seems to be in the same position as it was earlier now, as far as my car starting. O.k. heres the situation, i've used a new battery, got rid of the fuseable links in my starter wires, pulled the starter and had it tested and it came out good, tested my neutral safety switch came out good, replaced my ignition switch, and with all of this stuff done, when attempting to start the car it just does nothing, and the battery is good, full of charge. One thing i noticed, the temp gauge pegs when i crank it over. I have no clue what to check, but what are the possibilities that a few week old +battery cable go bad? I mean, could the heat from the exhaust manifold kill it? Could it just be a bad connection to the selenoid?

yes, my lights work, and i also redid my grounds on the batter today, but still nothing. i'm gonna go head out to the parts store to buy another new + battery cable. This one is fairly new but it could be bad i guess. any other ideas? thanks

Does your 87 have a passkey? That same thing happened when I used a key without the passkey on it.

My car has done this several times in the past, but all I had to do was to wait about 5 mins and it fired right up. It turned out to be that the stupid chip in my key was loose. I just used my other key and it never happened again. So basically did you try another key

87's don't have the pass key... try using a remote starter switch (aka screw driver) cross the poles on the starter and see what happens... post the results...
