Alternative for replacing the stock hood?

I have an 82 Camaro Z28. It has an RPM air gap intake, 650 double pumper carb, drop top Air cleaner with a 3" element.

Right now I have the stock hood with the two indents in it. Right now everything fits......but with very little clearance.

Now I just got a nitrous kit with the 5/8 plate and I need a little more clearance. I thought about droping the motor mounts, or milling off the carb so I can run a shorter filter and the extream air cleaner lid of K&N's.

Does anybody have any other ideas or any pros and cons of the ones that I have mentioned.

Does anybody know if a company makes a real thin plate. Or maybe I could mill the plate down.

Do a search for the corvette drop base cleaner from the earlier vette's - I've read where many get them for increased clearance because they drop alot more than most - maybe that would do it. Might also have to go to a 2 1/2 inch filter - I did on my stock hood with a Performer RPM intake and carb (Performer RPM same specs as Air Gap) - but the extra plate I know nothing about.

I think its a MR. Gasket air cleaner base but not 100% positive. Right now with my air filter in, if you layed a straight edge across the top of it I only have about 3/8" clearance from the top of the air horn to my straight edge.

hope this gives you a better idea.

Have you been to the track with your setup? Got any time slips without the N20?

Search my posts on L-88 air cleaners.

Will give an additional 1" clearance with a 3" filter more than typical aftermarket drop bases. Should machine off the choke horn on a holley carb thou. this base hugs down around the carb more than aftermarket ones.

Searhc my posts to find out whee you can buy the base and see some pics. Lots of room for your airgap and 5/8" N2O plate with a 3" filter.

Thanks for the replys, I dont have any timeslips yet, I have G-Teched it though, it says mid to low 12's but take it for what its worth. As for the air cleaner, I think that if I mill the top of the air horn off and use a different base or shorter filter along with the K&N lid it might go. Is there a mnufacturer that makes a fairly thin nitrous plate?? Or could I mill off the plate I have?

Thanks
