Check Engine Light mystery

My light wont turn off. My computer reads a code 42 (faulty ingition module). My module must be fine since I can start my car. It can't be the computer because its reading codes. Also each wire going to the computer was tested for any shorts, and there fine. So can anyone tell me whats with my check engine light in my 83 Trans-Am

The fact that your car will start does not mean the ingition module is fine. It can be faulty and still run.

Have you reset the ECM memory at all to see if it actually a current code?

Then thats not the problem. My cars battery has been dissconected for a while as I have been doing other work to it. It gets reconected when I run the engine for a few minutes as it sits.

Go get your modules tested, just because it's running does not mean it is running right. Don't make it any harder than it has to be.
