Car stalls and hits a wall at 2500rpm, help?

My CCC 85 z28 has been shutting off when going 25mph, while breaking for a turn, and frequently shuts down at idle speeds. It also hits a wall at 2500rpm when accelerating. It will bog down and then if you continue to press into the throttle eventually stumble on.

Could this be a coil issue? I have the accell high output HEI coil (how old i dont know). The cap and rotor are new.

How old is the fuel pump? (very common cause of high RPM bogging and pinging with these cars) A dieing fuel pump has a hard time keeping the fuel bowl full in the carb, and it runs out of fuel at high rpms.

Have you checked the TPS voltage?

I had a problem with my cc qjet before with a eratic idle that would dip down sometimes killing the engine at idle and low rpms and it ended up being a broken TPS sensor giving constant low readings.

Well it dies most at low rpms, like when switching out of reverse to drive. Just cuts out, doesnt sputter. I can replace the fuel pump, i dont know how 9old it is, but I would like to test the coil, or even see if its a relevent reason.

Clogged exhaust or broken cat? Have had both with similar results as yours.

My car does the exact same thing but at about 2800-3000 RPM, and doesn't like to downshift to go above it. it REALLY pisses me off. (My issue cannot be caused by exhaust/intake, its carbed and has new exhaust)

The lack of fuel issue sounds like it might be something, I should hook up a pressure guage and see what mine is doin. Could it be a mis match between engine and rear gearing?

x-wolf make sure your not getting loss of spark/misfire through arcing or bad wires. One of mine was burned on a header and caused me to receive shudder/vibration around 3000rpm trying to accelerate and could not downshift out of OD.

Not a clogged cat, as I dont have one. Not a bad MAF(mass air flow meter) cause i dont think i have one, unless u mean the little baro sensor thing.

Has anyone ever had a coil start to go bad, what does it cause?

The wires are a bit.....charrish looking but they look solid still. headers are coated, I wouldn't think theyd get damaged that bad then again....timing is off and has gottem them things red hot so I GUESS thats a possibility. I should look into that that and the fuel pressure dealio. Thanks for the idear.

cheers

i got a rough and lumpy idle and acceleration at the moment. plugs kept fowling so i replaced the leads with the plugs about 3 months ago. thought i had fixed the problem as all was fine until a couple of days ago when it became rough again. its going to the mechanic tomorrow. im thinkin its the coil but could really be anything - will post up what it is if it gets fixed.

I had a similiar problem. In at WOT in third gear it would hit the wall at about 3000 rpm.
I replaced the fuel filter in the carb and it fixed it.
