Oil pressure guage broken?

When my car is cold the oil pressure guage is fine but once the car heats up it drops to 0 and stays there. I took it to jiffy lube and got an oil change with a new filter and everything, it still reads 0. Could there still be a problem or is the guage definetly broken?

Is it the factory gague or aftermarket, if it is the factory gague it sounds like the sending unit is bad and when it warms up it stops working.

Mine does the same thing. Replaced the oil pressure sending unit, went from 30 warming up, going to zero, to ~50-60 to about 15-30 warm.

I've been told everything from it could be the oil pump, to the cam bearings going out..

Does your needle "dance"? Mine does. Not sure if that's related to anything, maybe someone could shed some insight into this.

Most of what I've said can be found using the search function, I'd suggest using it, as the archives are ripe with information about questions asked from day to day.

Good luck

Have you used a mechnical gauge to check the oil pressure, i don't know if it would effect the computer if you were to install an aftermarket gauge.

My Beretta does this. Don't take it to heart, but definitely check it out.

So, what's the problem? 50 to 60psi cold and 15 to 30 psi warm is perfectly normal. What makes you think there is a problem?

nothing, other than before the sensor went bad it was registering at a constant 30. But then again, theres no way for me to know if it was going before then. My only problem with it is that it "dances" a bit. Hard to explain, but I expect this to be normal also. Just nothing to really compare it to.

Well I for one wouldn't drive a car that read 0 on the oil pressure gauge. I think if you made it there and back than you couldn't possibly actually have 0 psi.

I had aproblem similar to this Through trial an error i found that the clip that holds the plug into the sending unit was broken. So that the plug was moving around. play with the plug a little bit to see if your reading changes. Its under the car near the oil pan.

I have this exact problem and I probably drive 10 miles a day with "Zero Oil Pressure" after the car warms up at idle. Its been like this for at least a month and nothing has changed. I'm not too worried about it.

My oil guage is really finnicky too. I dances around and works sometimes too; other times it sits at 0. Try flicking the panel covering the guage. Most of the time when i do this it jumps back up and starts working. Not a permanent fix, but at least it works the majority of the time for me although not very well. Apparently the sending units go on the f-bodies, alot. i think they are only 20-30bucks.

As stated, diagnose it with a mechanical guage. If the results are 'off' then post up, if the results are what they 'should' be, replace the busted part.

My gauge stays full all the time, never moves until I lay into the car for a bit. Once it gets really warm, than the gauge starts to move. Is this normal?

Mines does the same thing once cold reads 60 but when warm goes down almost into the red. Someone suggested to use a mechanical gauge, but everywhere I go one seems to have heard of one. My question is how do I go about making my own gauge?
