Throw away a 383ci SC for a gen 3 v8???

Hey how many of you guys think swapping out a built 383 with a ati procharger for a built ls2 and a six speed? I figure it's 2006. out with the old and in with the new. Am i nuts?? I was gonna get most the running gear from a z28 and building a ls2 block. Thanks

If you can't toss it all the way to Canada, my yard's closer.

Man if I had the money to drop an LS2 in my car I would do it in a heartbeat.

I have been toying with the idea of swapping out the 383 in the Formy for an LS motor.

I'm closest so it should land here or I can pick it up within 12 hours, 10 if I really put my foot into it

Really the biggest and only main advantage the LS engine series has over the original SBC's is the head design. Save the money and invest it in a good aftermarket 18* head setup and make way more power.

toss the 383 and the procharger?? the only LS series motor that could make me sit up in my seat with my 383 procharger combo is the LS7...and you won't be seeing that all over the place swap with the LS7 for while.

If you're making WAY more power in the LS2, then sure. But I'm welling to bet you wouldn't make much more, especially with that blower.

The LSx series are great motors, but not all powerful. Cubic inches are still the master of potential - the LS2 is only a 6L motor, your 383 has a few more cubes.. plus it's blown.

Cliff's Notes:

Are you dumb?

I have 5 payments left on my tacoma ('03) and soon as i'm done with that, a427 with a BIG innovative turbo setup will come to life. Will probably end up selling the 383/procharger in the car now to help fund that build up....shooting for mid season next year.

I still plan on turboing my 383 in my Formula its a conventional vortec headed 383 small block.

After my friend and I did an LS1 conversion in his GTA, I personally think I would be an idiot to build another conventional small block when I can do a swap easy and quickly enough, let alone prices are falling on the GEN III stuff.

Would I yank it if it was all good, prolly not.

Would I go to an LS? if it was junk? Almost certainly.

Everything has its day, the LS series engines trump ours in every way with the exception of cost and the more they make, the cheaper it gets.

later

383 for LS motor

Haha you guys crack me up. Well i am gonna keep the motor just in case (you know how that goes). The cars a 25th anv z28 and i dunno if i'm stupid for putting a diffrent motor in it. The reasoning is i've had nothing but problems with overheating and snapped cranks. Overheating- trickflow heads, new water pump (several times) be cool radiator. dual fans wired on all the time, several combos of thermostats, air dam intacked, i'm thinking the intercooler is stealing all the air though. Sit sideways with a big scoop in front of air dam. Any suggestions??

The ATI intercooler definetly is adding to your woes. Willie figured out how to run 2 of the small front mount intercoolers in place of the stock radiator blocker that ATI supplies. His setup worked just as well as the big single from a charge cooling standpoint and greatly reduced coolant operating temp. An ATI vendor is selling the kit he designed. Search a bit on the Power Adder board and you should be able to get some info. Highly recommended for a Procharged car in warm climates.
