moter problem
I am having a problem with my 89 2.8 multiport fuel injected moter on my firebird.
Friday afternoon I had replaced my cat converter. and fixed an exaust leak.
and today I was just playing around peeling rubber. and after I was driving up the road I had noticed my car was jolting/making a putting sound.and also I noticed it wanted to backfire and shut off for some reason.and it does it at high RPM on first gear and when it pops into second gear its running ok til it hits high rpm before shifting.
also I noticed when after I was driving I had washed the car, and I was hosing down the rims trying to get all the break dust off and something was heated around that area and steam was rising and I know that aint normal.
can someone tell me what this problem is?
does it mean I just need a new moter?

First off you cant burn rubber with a 2.8 so quit telling stories
I'm kidding.
Second, the steam is just your rotors... they get very hot and could easily boil water on contact.
Third, we need to start the basic principles of trouble shooting. You need air spark, and fuel to make an engine work properly.
You have a trouble code?
Air filter dirty? Fuel filter changed in the last decade? Ground wire on the engine clean?

I just changed the Fuel filter last week. and I woulder if it has to do with the fuel injectors. because I lose power when my car is heated. yes I was shocked I can burn rubber with a 2.8
air filter wont be the problem. feels like my moter is gonna shut off.
since I did a damn rubber crap. my car started doing that.
could something be flooded or even got clogged whille doing what I did?
because I did push the moter too much.

I doubt it is your injectors... could be your timing. And an air filter can do that if it is dirty enough. Also sounds to me like your MAF is messed up. Try to switch the MAF relays. located on the back firewall by the power booster.

ok today I left it at my work, I work at a chevy dealership.and so I will leave it up to them on the problem.so I will find out tomarrow what the deal is.
also one of the tecs went for a test drive and he said the trans is slipping alittle but that wasnt the problem. so futher research is being done to it.

It would be cheaper to put in a 350 than it would be to have the dealership trouble shoot a 2.8 and fix a slipping trans.
