If you don't have a heater core, you should be able to just bypass it. So rather than the hose going from water pump to heater core, then back to manifold, just go from water pump to manifold. It'd be like a 6" hose.

I've seen that a few times on pictures of big blocks.

I've had that done for quite some time now, longer than 6" though. I use a piece closer to 36" long to give room for expansion.

Blocking them off is better.

The hole on the WP is cold water (pump suction side), and the port on the manifold is hot water. Running a piece of hose between those 2 places essentially "short-circuits" the radiator. Hot water will simply pump out the top of the manifold, and get sucked right back into the WP without passing through the radiator and being cooled.

Use brass pipe plugs, not hose.

Big blocks have a different situation; they come with a factory-installed bypass (which incidentally alot of people block off). Doesn't apply to SBs.

It's like 3/8" NPT. You probably have a NPT-hose fitting on it now, rip it off and bring it to the parts store and size it up. You should be able to eyeball it though.

Sorry about that; I kind of ran out of time right then.

It's actually ½" pipe.
