Im assuming your talking about the B&M kits, which are absolute garbage, trust me. Buy a TransGo kit.

I think the shift improver is just like it sounds you will get a crisper shift and the transpak is a hard shift with the manual shift option.

depends how good you are with instructions and hand tools. Myself I dont screw with that stuff. send it to a tranny guy and have him do it then if something goes wrong its on him.

If he is a tranny guy and has never done a shift kit then take it somewhere else!

When i worked at the tranny shop it was always good practice to install shift improver kits and/or valvebody modifications. Keeps them from coming back.

He is probably one of those guys that doesnt clean the valvebody because he doesnt remember the correct way the parts go back in.

The trans-go kit is the one to use. It requires a fair amount of basic knowledge on transmissions. Not saying you cannot do it, but it takes about 2-4 hours and while not complex, you have to be careful with check *****, springs, etc. The instructions are well laid out. I suggest you go to TransGos website and you can download the instructions. Then you can decide if you want to tackle the job. Badman

In my honest opinion, take it to a transmission shop with shift kit experience. My second piece of advice would be to get a TransGo shift kit.

i am in the same dilemma myself with a 1977 th350 trans in a truck of mine it needs an improver kit it has a weak third gear(shifts into but doesnt hold it very well) and im pretty sure its due to a leakage past a seal, i was told its the third and reverse pistons seal or something like that and that i could at least temporarily resolve the issue by installing parts of the shift improver kit but not all of the kit

ive taken a few th350 trannies apart but never reassembled one, ive still never figured out how to learn how the parts in them work and what they are no matter how muh i look at manuals and such its just a whole diffferent world than engines are in which are simple to rebuild compared to trannies imho

no trans shops here, id have to travel a ways to get to one and it wouldnt be worth the cost anyways plus its in a 4x4 and its a ton of work to get that super heavy iron 203 transfer case out of the way to swap another trans in it in which would take alot of $ to replace with a known good one, if such could be found

dilemmas suck...

good luck
