Battery Relocation - Need Advice
Just bought a battery relocation bracket from BMR. Battery to go where the spare tire was. Thinkning of buying an Optima Yellow top for deep cycle capacity or just go with the delco. Do I need to vent the battery and how would I do it. Thinking of possibly cutting a hole under the bracket to let air come in.
Any suggestions? Thanks............Bill

Battery is not sealed. Do I still need to just cut a hole or not since the battery is at the back of the car?

you need to run a sealed box such as one's built by taylor or moroso which have a vent tube to vent the battery gases out of the car, this doesn't mean drilling a hole in the spare tire well to just let air "in".

To be track legal, even if the battery is tucked away in the spare tire well and is a sealed type battery like an Optima, it needs to be in a sealed battery box as mentioned above. The box then has a small tube that goes to the outside of the car. Mounting it in a marine battery box is not track legal.
Relocating the battery also needs other rules if you wish to go to the track. A master switch needs to be mounted at the rear of the car. The positive cable goes through the master. Off must be clearly marked. If mounted as a push/pull, push is off. Switch can't be made of plastic or keyed. When the switch is turned off, it must kill the engine.
Now if you don't plan on going to the track, you can mount the battery however you wish.

I don't plan on racing. Do I still need to vent or can I just mount a delco battery and not have to worry about the fumes?

No if it is not sealed then it MUST BE VENTED the gas that we are talking about here is hydrogen...remember the hindinberg?
if you dont vent it you will have a bigger bomb than a battery already is...
i wouldnt recomend putting a non sealed battery in a Al box anyway as sulfuric acid and Al produce 100% hydrogen
so go spend the $70 bucks and get a optima battery and run the correct vent for the battery...
because having a explosion right next to 15 gallons of gas(tank) is a very bad thing

Technically Optima batteries are considered gel cell batteries. They can be mounted in any position with no risk of spillage. If you don't plan on going to the track, then install one of those wherever and however you want.
You don't need a yellow top. A red top will do just fine.
