car shiped from germany, now runs like crap, help?
i just had my car shipped from germany to the states. the day before i shipped it, nothing was wrong.
92 firebird
stock lo3
5 speed
When i picked it up, check engine light came on and went off a few times. the car wouldnt rev past 4000 rpms. replaced o2 sensor, now car revs, but driveing through the gears it wont go past 4000rpms or it just falls flat on its face. i added a rev limiter to the car so during the shipping the car couldnt be driven past 2400 rpms. (this was to save the car from kids driveing it from the docks) i removed the chip and it just isnt the same car. had the rev limiter on for a few months before it shipped so it isnt that. any ideas??

Not sure what your problem just a word of advice.
When I shipped my car back from Iceland it was running great when I shipped it also but when I picked it up at the port it would hardly run. 1976 Olds Cutlass carbed 350 The shipping company "recommended" a shop to have it looked at. $700 later (in 1986) it was "fixed" I found out later that the shipper and the shop were owned by the same company and they caused the disrepair on my car to make more money.
Be very cautious of everything you might be surprised what you could find.
I assume you're military so check with you legal office about possibly filing a shipping claim to get you problem solved. Could save you a ton of cash.

Should always use security stickers on anything openable. With a sign off sheet for the drivers side door every time it was opened and re-sealed.
Think about the kind of folks that work on them ship with lots of time to do nothing but poke around. They could of played pee in the gas tank for several weeks.
Even US shipper are no different. Worked for both UPS and RPS/FedEX
UPS is union and once in union you are untouchable as long as you show up on time every day. They purposly destroy boxes, open up cray to play wit hand eat everything labled food. Lost HickeryFarms account form that. By time it gets delivered everyone has taken their cut out of the opened package.
Can remember many many gumball fights, over wieght package not packaged well get kick till open then parts scattered all over on purpose.
no one does **** if your union and show up on time. Why? they go through 1000s of folks per week and the few who stay are to valuable to squable over that stuff. UPS then says you didn't package it right and to bad....
RPS/FedEX isn't anything like that......
If you use UPS you better package your stuff for war....

thanks guys for the replies. the code was 45, so after i replaced the oxygen sensor i just kept driveing it. it is running alot better now. i was hopeing that the computer just had to reset itself to the different sea level enviroment. my old boss told me a story about a 4th gen he had that after shipping had bald tires, and the rear quarter panel was caved in. thats why i quickly added the rev limiter, and hid it as best as i could.

You did right by the Rev limiter. As bilms01 said, I'm assuming your military. If you are still within your window, file your claim paperwork. Then you've got 2 years (AF does anyway) to actually file the claim.
Was anything else damaged/ruined in shipment? I had a friend who's Heritage Harly got smashed coming back from Germany. It seems the car behind his bike wasn't secured properly and mashed his bike up agianst the front of the container it was in. Needless to say, he was pissed. They wouldn't even total it (his frame was bent and twisted all to hell)...they just gave him the "insurance adjusted price" for it...and then told him to fix it. It was like $100 under the "total price"...talk about garbage. I really hope you get yours fixed bro. I know being in the salt air probably wasn't all that good for it.
