neutral safety switch question

I swapped from a auto to manual and cannot figure out the neutral safety switch. Ive been to autozone a few times and everytime i go they give my a different switch. The first time they gave me a black rectangular box that had a push in rectangular button, i couldnt figure out how it installed so i took it back. Now they gave me this big switch with a long rod and i still cant figure out how it installs. Does anybody have the correct part number and/or a picture of it installed? It looks like there is just a round hole like on the brake and i was figuring it would look something like the brake switch.

Re: neutral safety switch question

Big switch w/long rod =

The switch body should have a push-in clip on the side; that clips onto the pedal bracket. The rod clips into a hole in the pedal. It should be adjusted to where the rod pulls out as the clutch pedal goes down, and it actuates the switch when it's all the way down.

Wires should be kind of fat ones; yellow and purple.

Re: neutral safety switch question

Forget the switch it's just a hastle, take the two wires and install a crimp on them and your set.

Re: neutral safety switch question

I realize i could jump the yellow and purple wires together but i want to do it right and use the safety switch. It only takes 10 min to wire up im just trying to figure out how it attaches to the clutch.

Re: neutral safety switch question

My 86, 88, and 90 have the large rectangular switch. It attaches to the pedal assembly and I guess works for the style that has a large flat section on the clutch pedal.

What year are the donor parts from?

Re: neutral safety switch question

Yup, that's the one I was talking about...

Should have a push-in clip on the side that's facing down now, which will clip into a hole in the side of the pedal bracket; then the end that you're holding clips into a hole in the pedal. The little slidey thing is self-adjusting, to work the switch itself.

Mine is a 83 and uses that setup. I have no clue what years they might have used that, or changed to something else.
