Miss and HI oil pressure.

Looked but can't find anything on this one.

On the way home from getting pizzia I thought the car missed. Just once and not bad. Pulled up to a stop light and as I pulled away it missed again. Looked down to check the guages and my oil pressure is reading 60+psi. Usually under power it will drop back down to 40-45 or so. This thing stayed at 60 and missed a couple of more times.

I put the car in netural and coasted and the pressure dropped to 55 or so. back in gear at the stop and she dropped to about 45 and jumped right back up to 60 and had an intermittent miss.

Got home checked the oil and it was about a quart low so I topped it off and let the car sit. Went back out about an hour latter and cranked it up. Pressure jumps to 60 but now I don't hear the miss. I thought about taking it around the block but figured I'd get some input first.

Engine is a crate vortec tpi from scoggin and has about 40k on it. It was running great until just now. Heck you can ask the new mustang gt from 2 nights ago.

The only problem I have had is a couple of the valve springs broke and have been replaced. The last one was about 4 months ago.

Suggestions????????????????

Re: Miss and HI oil pressure.

Some of the GM crate motors came with high pressure oil pumps, so high oil pressure likely isnt an issue. Also, the gauge and sender arent the most accurate, either.

The valve springs are another story. Id be looking closely at them if they repeatedly keep breaking. If nothing is getting close to or actually binding, id replace them all with springs from a reputable cam company.

Re: Miss and HI oil pressure.

any input would be apprciated at this point.

i did speak with a tech and he suggested it could be that my lt4 cam is eating the gear on the distributor and the pieces could be clogging the oil circulation.

thoughts before i pull it?

Re: Miss and HI oil pressure.

yeah I have a high volume oil pump in my car. It reads at 60+ until it gets warm then it runs around 45psi at idle.

Check those darn ground wires at the back of the cylinder head on the driver's side. If they are just laying against the block they will drive the ECM and gauges crazy. See pic:

Thanks for the pic. Checked it and don't see any.

Is there ANY chance this could be casued by a busted valve spring?

Re: Miss and HI oil pressure.

Valve spring could definately cause the miss, but i dont see any way that it would cause a jump in oil pressure...

More likely a weak valve spring. A broken valve spring almost always causes a loud "pop-pop-pop" in the intake. Weak spring will cause a miss at idle that goes away as RPM increases. It's simple to check though, just pull the valve covers and press on the rocker. A broken or weak spring can be moved with your thumb.
I would verify the oil pressure and if the dash gauge is reading higher than actual, troubleshoot from there. If the miss is related to the same electrical problem, it would get fixed too.
