CNC-MotorSports Short Blocks; Anyone?

I'm looking to move to a 396 in my 96 LT1 and have been doing some internet searches.

I found CNC-MotorSports offers one with all forged internals - Eagle 3.875Crank and 6" Rods and SRP pistons, fully assembled. Price is pretty good too.

I'm wondering if anyone is running one of their engines and can give me some feedback.

Thanks,

Jake

Re: CNC-MotorSports Short Blocks; Anyone?

well what are you planning on doing to it that would require forged internals?

Actually, since I'm going with all new internals, I figured why not. The difference in price isn't all that much.

Over the years I've seen my share of cast BB cranks that had cracks right at the journal fillet when magnafluxed. I've also read a couple of posts on other Forums of guys snapping a LT1 rod right in the center and more than a few stories about spun rod bearings.

I've haven't seen the actual numbers, but I read once that GM tightened the rod bearing clearance on the LT1.

I recently read an article of how a spun rod bearing is one of the weaknesses of the LT1; apparently it happens somewhat frequently.

i bought a rotating assembly from him. bal to the flywheel 1206.00 to the door. srp pistons, total seal rings, eagle crank and rods. 383 for 1 peice rear seal. no bad things to say about him. google the guy's name and see what comes up. it's basicly a machine shop that sells products that it makes. A+ in my book. will definatly reorder again for my next engine.

What's the guys name that I should Google? I went to their site and the info I read gave me a positive feeling.

Haven't run one of thier engines but have bought my rods and a carb from there. No complaints and good prices.

I've been looking at Their 383 shortblocks myself. I wanna go with 396 setup but I can only afford the completely forged 383 with 9.8 compression. It goes for about 3,200 with the roller cam+timing chain installed. I wonder if they actually have a warranty on their shortblock's though....

A few weeks ago, I bought one of CNC's all forged, LT1 short blocks, never built beyond that point, from an Ebayer who lives not far from CNC-MotorSports in SD. I'm in the process of completing the build now. I paid $2,000 for it; with 4340 EAGLE crank and their 6" "H" beam rods and SRP pistons.

I bought a set of ported AFR heads and quite a few other items - all new - from another guy in Florida. He also has a FRESH 396 short block, which I believe is a LT1 based engine too. If you're interested in it, I'll try to find his email address for you.

He had it up for sale on EBay with a starting bid of less than $2,000. Unfortunately, for me, I'd already committed to buying the SD before I found it. I don't know if it has been sold yet though.

Both sellers are stand-up guys to deal with.

Let me know.
