ok what cumbo are u guys in the 13's running

my brother is working on a car 86 trans am now and is want to get it to 13's but not wanting spending to much money and so today he got a 350 long block to build so what is best way to go with it. it has 882 heads to i know there not the best but if he use dome piston will it make good power. or what heads under 1000 dollars would work

Re: ok what cumbo are u guys in the 13's running

vortec heads and a decent cam will get you into 13s without the domed pistons

I've seen vortec heads with the right cam throw down 400rwhp, better be a hell of alot faster than 13s haha

882 heads ... dome piston
World's worst combo. Don't even THINK about going there. People have been being disappointed by that combo since the 882 first appeared. I got to where I had to refuse to build it for people in the mid 70s, because I didn't want to deal with all the complaints and dissatisfaction any more.

What pistons are in it now?

Summit sells assembled vortec heads (might want to check what springs are on them as they may need to be changed) for pretty damn cheap, iirc.

You'll need something like the edelbrock rpm airgap intake manifold for vortec heads, and a decent cam. Do you have a roller block? If so, the XR276HR (224/230 @ .50) or the XR282HR (230/236) will work nicely. I've seen the vortec heads/edelbrock rpm A/G with the XR282HR camshaft put down slightly over 400 rwhp and run 12s with ease. Proper supporting bolt-ons of course.

wow replace that "thing" on top of your motor with a decent intake and a good carb and you'll probably see a metric ****-ton of improvement haha
