Push Starting?
Is there any reason why you can't push start our cars? Like some computer protection or something.
My car wouldn't start today. Wouldn't even crank. Battery was charged an good. Lights on dash come on. I tried rolling it and dumping the clutch to push start it but it wouldn't fire.
I was thinking it was the starter, but if it was the starter I should have been able to push start it, right?

Re: Push Starting?
no if the starter wouldnt turn the engine then it isnt the coil... now it could be a few things but i am guessing VATS or a bad battery connection or ground.... NOT A COIL

Re: Push Starting?
Hmmm... I thinking it might be the VATS system.
So just to verify, I could push start my car if it was working right?

Re: Push Starting?
vats doesn't inhibit the starter, not to my knowledge it just kills your injectors, fix your starter issue

Re: Push Starting?
my books show a VATS starter enable relay for 88 & newer.
these 2 links should help if it is a VATS problem

Re: Push Starting?
Thanks for all the replies, I fixed it.
It was the VATS system. Must be a wire broken in the column, I just soldered a resister under the dash. Problem solved.
And yes, you can push start the car, but VATS disables the fuel system without the correct resistance.
