ticking or pinging on rebuilt 305
Just did the Break in on the rebuilt, changed the oil no flakes. But, only in drive does it make any noise. I have no idea what it could be I know the shop said it needs a new carb due to the secondaries not working. Will open her up and check valve lash. Also I have a rebuilt carb Qjet number is 1705. I cant use it and need the CCC Qjet for my car.

Could the TPS sensor be the problem for the Secondaries not working. Sorry I am new and trying to learn my way around the car.

Unless there is some serious mechanical breakage on the carb I don't see why you can't use it. If it is recently rebuilt why is it not working right? The TPS has nothing to do with the secondaries. They are still mechanically operated like any other q-jet by the progressive linkage. So if they are not opening.... check your linkages. If you truly need a new carb there is a guy selling some ccc q-jets at montecarloss.com for like $25 a piece, and I believe they are low mileage carbs.

Re: ticking or pinging on rebuilt 305
Thanks for the info. What would make a ticking noise while just in drive. I have a set of Elda. valve covers on it. I am going to take them off sometime today to find if the valve train is hitting the covers. I have also read some where here that the torque coverter was coming loose. but it only happens in drive and not in park or nutrual.
Thanks
Thanks

Well in drive the engine would be loaded by the trans, where as in park there would be no load. I can see how the torque converter might be a problem. If the rockers are hitting your valve covers you'd probably see a dent that should be there where it is hitting. If you truly think it is the vavle train, then yeah it might be best to go back in a readjust the valves.

Blipping the throttle with the hood open and your face over the carb ain't gonna open the secondaries, especially on a 305. Methinks you need a new shop.
Need more info on your car: year, transmission type, what all has been "rebuilt" and what's original, etc.

unless it is on a dyno (under load) you wont get the secondarys to open, could timing be the problem?
Too mutch advance will make a pinging noise under load, mine was doing it for ages (I thought it was a dud lifter) but after finding TDC with a piston stop, a white marker and timing light it now runs smooth and quiet.
