Re: Engine Mounts

You can do it yourself in about an hour if you only undo one bolt on each side.

How do you remove an engine mount held by 3 bolts by just removing one?
It took me 6 Hours to do it by myself! I also did the trans mount, Oil, Oil filter and new spark plugs.

But 1 week later both mounts are broken! don't ask me how.

By not removing the mount.

Remove the lower nut and bolt on each side, drill or grind out the lower rivets, pry the mount apart just enough to slide the old mount out and replace it with a new poly mount, squeeze the mount back together and hold it in place with vice grips or C clamps or whatever works, drop the bolts in from above, use super glue to hold the nut in an open-ended wrench while you turn the bolt to get the threads started, torque to satisfaction, lower the car.

Re: Engine Mounts

It will only work with some sort of insert. If you're using a stock rubber mount that comes already enclosed in the metal shell, you'd have to take all 3 bolts out.

Re: Engine Mounts

Arnt the rubber mounts ment to be fixed to the metal housing because my stock replacements the rubber has come loose and the engine is now on a slope.

Re: Engine Mounts

They're not fixed, they're just squeezed between the two metal halves.

Re: Engine Mounts

soo if my RHS (aussie drivers side) is sitting low in the mount and the LHS is sitting higher in the mount it is normal?

Sorry about the quality, camera phones + dark don't mix well, But here are the 2 mounts:

Re: Engine Mounts

Have you got the clamshells bolted to the engine on the right sides?
