I hope I put this in the right place. LOL

Okay, I was at the junk yard the other day, looking for a hood and came across a blue Camaro with Firebird wheels. I went over to the car and was checking out the wheels and then I noticed the spotless black interior. I looked through the interior and saw a B&M shifter and I was like BAM. I want it. I was able to unbolt everything I could but I want to know how to get it into my car. I pulled it from a 87 camaro 305 and want to put it in a 89 Firechicken 350. Trans should be the same correct? 700r4 not 200r4. I know I have to cut up the stock middle console but does anyone have pics or the original install instructions or something. Car still at the yard so I can pull more off of it if needed. Thanks ahead of time.

The link is from Jegs to show you exactly what it is. This is the exact one I pulled and it even has that cool polished handle.

Like I said, thanks ahead of time cause I know this one will be a female dog.

If you pulled everything out, brackets and all it will bolt right in.
Yes, you will have to cut the top plate, but the plate that comes with the shifter will cover it.
I believe if you look on B&M website they have the instructions to install.

Here are a couple pics one shows it installed, but I modified it to fit the stock shifter, And the other shows it installed, alittle dark, but these are all the pics I can find, I have a Hurst dual gate in there now.

Thanks for the help and I think that I will attempt to do it in a few days. Are you happy with the unit or is it not worth the effort? Does anyone have anymore pics? Thanks

The correct part number is 80692. Go to www.summitracing.com, search on that p/n, there is a link to a pdf file of the instructions.

Note that it says, "Will not fit '88-92 Firebird Formula". I don't know why.

Also note that the Jegs description is incorrect - the 80692 does not use the stock shifter cable, it comes with a 5' B&M cable.

I'm running the 80692 shifter, it's a little stiff because of the long cable that comes with it. Not sure why they don't just run a short cable like the factory does, but I never looked into trying it, and it's about to be OBE (overcome by events).

Why doesn't it fit Formulas? What is different about my car than other ones? What does the B&M cable look like? What color is it or how do I get it off the donor car? If I decide to sell the shifter, I want to be able to give the buyer everything they need for install.

The B&M shifter cable has a red jacketed housing.

Uh, so why can't it fit on my 89 formula? What does it mean red jacketed housing? Nothing red on it. Does anyone have a sticky or the original directions? I couldn't find anything on the B&M website.

Re: I hope I put this in the right place. LOL

i can tell you this, in the kit there are (USUALLY) different brackets for 700r4 200r4 400 turbo's powerglides ect. you haft to get the brackett off the old tranny if there is one. then if it bolts to yours with no interfences and you can hook the cable up go for it. you may haft to adjust the cable a littlebit

if the bracket does not fit call b&m and try to order one, or just call them right now and find out why it wont fit. if it was mine i would just duct tape it on and call it good hahahaha

plus LOKAR has one but its 50 bucks its called an "adjustable shifter bracket" or some $h1t

Re: I hope I put this in the right place. LOL

I got the shifter off a car with the same trans as mine so everything should be good. B&M can't seem to help me but they are quick to sell me another shifter! WTF! Okay, so, there is a clear cable I got with the shifter that didn't seem to want to come off. Is that the cable I needed? I just can't seem to understand why the shifter won't fit Formulas like it says on the JEGS website.
