Threaded hole size at engine??

Hi,

Can you please let me know what is the size of this threaded?

I like to try installing there the knock sensor but the sensor has a thread of 1/8" NPT and did try to fit there a 1/8" NPT engine plug but doesn't fit.
I start to think that this thread is NOT NPT.

Engine is a 1pc main rear seal type.

Regards,
Cobra289

Hi duckmanquacker,

Sorry but will not fit, it hits the headers and the other side too.
Thanks for the comments.

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

those two spots are really the only place to put one of the sensors. the location of your arrow will constantly set off the sensor every time the cylinder near it fires. I'm guessing that this is going into your kit car and your using the factory style harness?

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

That's one of the old clutch pivot ball holes.

Definitely NOT pipe thread.

If memory serves, it's 7/16"-14 thread.

Doesn't matter in the least that it's near a cylinder.

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

Hi duckmanquacker,

The knock sensor will listen to the vibrations of the block at a determined frequency, I understand what you mean that when the piston fires the sensor will catch the sound, but isn't the frequently out of range of the sensor?

I have installed the engine at the Cobra Kit Car and probably next weekend will be fired for the first time with this new engine.

The harness is like the stock one but new and lots of stuff was removed and some others added, it was made on request by "S10Wildside" member his site is:

He did a pretty good job!
See my harness at the next link.

Hi sofakingdom,

Thanks!
7/16 UNC has just a bit less diameter than the 1/8" Pipe thread so I will buy one of those and test it.

It is a petty that I can install the knock sensor there!!!!!!

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

not sure on the frequency range but good point. I believe that you could plug the sensor in and ground it somewhere to run your engine but the knock sensing will be null. usually they are sensing for detonation/ bearing knock, if it senses either of those the power output is cut way back or ignition killed depending on application.

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

If you're running an electric fuel pump, you can drill and tap a 1/8" NPT hole in the fuel pump blockoff plate on the front, passenger side of the engine. I've heard of quite a few people relocating the knock sensor there with success.

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

Re: Threaded hole size at engine??

Hi Pat Hall,

I like the position of the block-off plate location.

I need to test first the actual location (see picture) and if the sensitive will be low I will change for the fuel pump block-off plate.

Thanks!
