Re: New Transmission for Firebird

it is a 700r4... give Dana a call at Probuilt Automatics, hes the best, very knowledgeable too, he'll answer all your questions over the phone. 909-795-1876. his prices start at $1600. but if you look around, its worth every penny compared to the cost of a stock rebuild.

Re: New Transmission for Firebird

If it has a 4spd automatic; then yes, it should be a 700R4.

Re: New Transmission for Firebird

Don't forget, you need to know if your engine is a 2.8 V6 or 5.0 V8. They don't interchange because of the transmission bolt pattern.

Also, make sure the one you get is an 87 or newer transmission. The old ones are weaker internally (as you have just found out.)

There's also a guy on ebay from Tampa who sells them for less than 1000 bucks. Where in Fl are you at?

LOL, you must be thinking of LOU from Mad Dog Transmissions. who now goes by the name of OutLaw Transmissions. i would think twice about buying a transmission about that guy, his transmissions are known to last for only a couple of seconds all the way up to 3 months! i've heard of people receiving there transmission from him with no forward gears, some with no reverse, and some with no overdrive, not worth the risk of buying one of those transmissions with the high failure rate they have. just check out the thread below.... ProBuiltAutomatics is number 1 in my book

If it's just a daily driver I'd get a take out from the wrecking yard...

I don't know the tampa guy, I was just throwing options out there...

Are these the guys you are talking about being bad? I really don't know; they seem to have decent feedback ratings..

I think the Maddog guy is from Georgia...

Yes it does cost money to have a good tranny I got stuck one time before and lost out on $800 bucks!

But I own a G-Man Tranny now that I got off Ebay I installed it just like they said with a brand new tq converter. They have great customer service too, you can even call them on the weekend for any questions. The tranny I got from them was rated at 550hp, street/strip use w/lockup after 45mph. I did my research before I bought it they offered the Z-Pack which has 13 clutches instead of 9 clutches like other tranny builders use. Other companies wanted atleast $400 more for the Z-Pack.

Best of all they even sent a dvd of them making my tranny and personalizing it with my name on it with a cool looking paint job I might add. It came in a strong crate also with all paper work for my warrenty. Just call them they will tell you thats all they do is build trannys.
