stroked l03???
has anyone heard of a LO3 stroked?, i was on this one site and it said if u get a 400 crank and it makes a 335?
look for it almost at the bottom

If you've got it, stroke it! Your final step is to stroke your 5.0 liter. That's right! Drop a 400 small block Chevy crank into your 305 and you get 335cid! This one modification alone, as done by Super Chevy magazine, with a plain old factory Q-jet carb installed on a Edelbrock Performer manifold, a set of headers, and a mild, mild cam, running 5.0 H.O. heads and a mild stock compression ratio, made for almost 100 horses over stock!

Re: stroked l03???
there are plenty of logical reasons not to do this, but to answer your question: yes, it has been done. search for tunedport335 on here. he's got a very nice setup. not the fastest 305 on the planet, but plenty torquey

Re: stroked l03???
you're going to get seriously flamed for this. It comes up every few months and whoever brings it up gets slammed. I'd say do it if you have a spare 305 laying around but if you want to make some real power build a 350. I know I'm going to do it with one of the many engines I have laying around the garage just for giggles for a little experiment.

Groan!?!
Alright, i'll be first, sigh...
A stroked 305 still has the small bore which doesn't allow for big enough valves to properly feed it. Remember a Ford 302 has a 4" bore, (4" of bore for 300 cubes is fair game). But 335 cubes and only a 3.73" bore? Ouch, not enough valves to get to high RPM. It'd be great for an S-10, good torque, etc.
But of course you need stroker pistons, and pistons for a 305 setup for a stroker crank aren't common, so they cost more. (why aren't they common? Think about that for a sec - it's just not a great idea). Once you're dropping the cash for a whole new rotating assembly in a 305, you wonder why you don't drop the extra $100 to get a rebuildable 350 core.
335 vs 383? Easy choice, 50 more cubes are worth $100 to me. Thats probably an easy 30-60HP, just from those cubes alone. For $100?!? That's the CHEAPEST HP you could possibly get - and it's one time only deal, once you put the money into the 305 block you can't go back (without wasting a LOT more cash). So take your chance and upgrade the block while everything is disassembled on your floor. Nows your chance

Re: stroked l03???
I agree; even an old 307 block is a better candidate for this becase the bore is big enough to put nice heads on it with lots of flow.
In reality, if you have an LO3 engine, the first thing you need to find is a 350 short block and some LG4/TPI heads. If you want to stroke that, then go for it.
There are too many bigger engines around to ignore the "no replacement for displacement" message...

Re: stroked l03???
Modding a 305 is perfectly fine until you have to buy new pistons and have machine work done. Then the horsepower vs dollar ratio goes in the toilet and you're better off getting a 350. Stroking a 305 is one of the worst inventions ever made. Small bore with a long stroke is a bad combination in the automotive world.
Also, that website you posted is pretty infamous around here. That guy no longer supports it, but he has a lot of theory but very little actually experience. His ideas usually dont work in the real world.
