Help me Identify Please
Can someone help me figure what engine this is?
I do know that its a chevy v8, and I have a picture of the casting number, and I was hoping someone could tell me what model it is.

It looks like 3951511.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Help me Identify Please
The engine in the pic looks amazingly similar to a small red X on a small square white plaque.
However, 511 is an early-model 400; 70-72. Probably has 4-bolt caps on the #2, #3, and #4 mains. Probably has 3 freeze plugs on each side of the block.

yes it does have 4 bolt mains, and 3 freeze plugs. One of the rods is clearly bent. Probably not worth my time to tear apart and work on.

I would hold on to that if i were you, or i will trade you a 350 4bolt main block for it. How far are you from Gulfport MS?
----------
I take it back if its what you are showing in the photo's thats not a V8.

about 300 or 400 miles. I may just hang onto it, just figure since one of the rods is bent that the block is probably crap. Is the crank forged or cast?

in your photo gallery the 6 cylinder engine with leaves on it, is that the same engine you are pulling the # off? or is there another engine not pictured?

Yup, unmistakably a 400... it's exactly what the casting # would indicate... imagine that....
A bent rod probably means it was "hydraulic-ed"; driven through a deep puddle or something.
Not really "repairable", as such; that is, it would take ALOT of money, and the results would be less than stellar; but potentially a good foundation for building something else out of.
