Shorter Belt - Bypass AC/Smog?

My smog pump lost a bolt and somehow has became mis-aligned, it bent or something. Anyway, I'm looking for a smog pump delete pulley... but also had a curious question. I haven't looked at the car hard enough to logical figure it out myself and I'm stuck at work for time being.

Could I keep the AC/Smog pump attached and just purchase a shorter belt and bypass the AC/Smog pulley's and run everything else properly?

i did it to mine a couple of years ago . works great . i made a copy of the belt # and routing that i keep in the car . being a ret. mil.&civ. acft. mech. , plus a civ. pilot . prenative maint. is a must . do it right or don't do it .

Just ditch the pump, don't worry about the delete pulley, reroute the belt and it takes a longer one, read the article listed above.

Forget the delete pulley like DartByu says just put a longer belt Goodyear part #4060967 will work fine,go to the home page and look at how to re route the belt.

Is there a way not to go tothe A/C also?? Right now I still have my A/C but later I might want to delete it... I already deleted my smog pump.

Re: Shorter Belt - Bypass AC/Smog?

i've got the same question. we've all read the tech on bypassing the smog pump, but can a short belt be used to run only the alt, water pump, and p/s pump? i usually don't use my ac but i don't want to remove a working system from my car. i looked at the routing, and i don't know if there is enough contact area on the water pump pulley. also it might be difficult to install with no tentioner.

Re: Shorter Belt - Bypass AC/Smog?

You can make it work I did it once but you have to get a different upper coolant hose and you have you move you air intake up to keep it up off the belt. It isnt worth it just buy an A/C delete pulley. but I will see if I still have the part numbers laying around.
