I would go with a 400 sbc bored to a 427, forged crank, steel rods. 215 cc aluminun head drilled for a 400 sbc for water holes, Forged aluminum pistons, 11.0:1 with heads, setup to run dual stage nitrous, low rise aluminum intake with 950 holley race car, all able to fit under stock style fibergalss hood, roller cam w/lifters and aluminum rocker arms, aluminum hi flow water pump, all mounted on tubular from k-member, built turbo 400 auto trans, 4500 stall converter, 3.90 ford nine ince rear end and an aluminum drive shaft.

Don't want all the work involved with a LS and i like it to be somwhat period correct.

Sonix the point of this thread is to expose me and others to what some of the guys on here think is the best motor tranny combo, as I am currently building up two cars, and looking for two more to restore when the others are done. Currently im looking into stroking the 400, but wanting to see everyone elses ideas jus incase they are better, over the next year and a half i have money to burn before i have to grow up and save for a house. I was gonna buy a house this year, but out of nowhere the average price of houses shot up 90 thousand dollars.( don't believe me? look up saskatoon if you want). so that made it easier to talk the girlfriend of three years to leave me alone about the saving money idea, to build cars and buy toys, but what the hell a guys gotta have his toys b4 his boys hey.
So I personally think a blown and stroked out 400 small block is the way to go what other small block could beat that thing?

Re: Name the best dream engine tranny combo for the 82-83 Trans Am or similar f-body
holy cow this is a bunch of BS.
Small blocks can't be made abovea 454cid, and that's with an aftermarket block only.
Pontiac, olds, buick never made "big" or "small" blocks. Thats a Chevrolet ONLY thing.
If you want to spend big bucks and get big HP, look on the drag racing board. Those guys have actually BUILT these engines, and don't just drool over buzzwords and buzz-acronyms, and can tell you whats a good idea long term, financially a good idea, etc etc.

I saw something the other day at a buddy's shop that was cool. A new 400 block from Brodix. 75lbs lighter than a little M and cost about $1400.00. It had three freeze plug holes and has 350 size mains. They came from PBM Performance.

Re: Name the best dream engine tranny combo for the 82-83 Trans Am or similar f-body
We've all heard that before on these forums. I could list off member names, but that would just get tiresome. We all work hard, earn lots, but its funny how it works, when it comes right down to it, very very very few of us actually get around to building these dream engines and driving the cars. There's a whole lot of talk, and not much gets done. So it ends up being a waste of breath. This forum doesn't have a "chat" section for this very purpose....
Once the parts start arriving at your doorstep, then I think there's about a 50% you'll ever have the engine ready to drive in a car. There's still a good chance something falls through and you end up selling the parts before it ever gets built.
So right now, i'm thinking you have about a 1% chance of building a 500+HP engine at this stage

So what's the point ? Besides, would you rather have completely wild guess engine suggestions (read above...) or suggestions from guys who have built it and tried it? Hint - this thread is useless, go read in the drag racing forum!

Poor Sonix. Someone mustsa let off about 20 gallons of **** in his Cherrios. Really the only person wasting there time is you. Don't me mad at people because you let your projects go. Kudo's to you Dirty Canadian. I wish you all the luck with the 2 cars. And even if you don't do them who gives a %$%# Just think if Louis Chevrolet hadn't have dreamed we wouldn't have these great cars we drive. So Sonix why don't you get off his back.
