Re: rich smelling exhaust

is you egr valve working correctly? if not you could be running rich which gives you a bad smellin exhaust. Valve seals are you best bet tho. Mine smells like **** as well only cause my egr valve doesnt work rite n i have no cat.

if you bought an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator you could do it that way, or try advancing your timing that may help as well. Im going to advance my timing tommrow so i will let you know how it turns out.

Re: rich smelling exhaust

having no cat is always going to make the exhaust smell stronger. tuning can definitely impact the richness.

you didnt state your induction... so i am assuming that it is carbed.

unless you are running way too high of of pressure (>10 PSI) i do not think that the regulator will lean it out at all, although running too much pressure through a carb could potentially cause issues.

i would stay away from Mr. Gasket as far as fuel parts go. i had a Mr. Gasket FPR and it failed on me after a month or two, and i have their fuel pressure gauge and it sucks. i would go for a holley FPR.

The only way to get rid of that rich smell is to put a high flow cat back on which is what im doing because it will filter some of the stuff in your exhaust out so it wont stink as bad. And im sick of having all the black shoot on my rear bumper, especially cause i have a white car.

Re: rich smelling exhaust

i would definitely put a gauge on there. i havent had an edelbrock carb, but for my holleythere is a spot for the gauge where the fuel rail goes into the carb.

i would only get a FPR if the pressure is too high.

Re: rich smelling exhaust

You can run the guage on the fuel line, you should be anywhere from 5-7 psi of fuel pressure.

+1. make sure to get a liquid filled gauge, otherwise all it will do is bounce around and you wont be able to tell your pressure.

i would also stay away from Mr. Gasket. i have had nothing but issues with any of their parts.
