Fuel ECONOMY: Running V8 in 4 cyl. How do it?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Hey guys:
I'm thinking if I can run a TPI V8 in city with 4 cylinders only. What if I disconnect wires to injectors 2 - 4 - 6 - 8? I could run with cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7? ( 8 sparks, 4 injectors = 4 cylinders working)
Then, I can put under dash an ON/OFF switch connected to 4 injectors in order to run with 8 or 4 cylinders. Or 2 switch: 1 for injectors 1,3,5,7 and other for injectors 2,4,6,8 and run in an alternate method.
What do you think?

I think you will get worse fuel economy. The 4 injectors that you are running will probably try to dump more fuel to compensate for the injectors that are not firing. I think this sort of topic has been discussed before.

I don't think your computer would like that very much.

NO, that won't work whatsoever. Forget that, it's a terrible idea
Engineers are still working on this using much higher tech systems then that, and it's still barely feasible.

You need a third switch as well, for compression.... To be able to turn it on and off, otherwise the 4 cyls will be working twice as hard.
You figure that one out, ull be rich.

Even with DOHC engines and the like, you still build up compression.
Do any vehicles have some type of solenoid driven valves?

This is true. 2 of my plug wires fell onto my headers without me knowing and I started to guzzle a lot more gas than I normally do and when we checked, boom, two plug wires compeltly gone. Not even firing off the plugs, so with the lack of my two cylinders firing, a lot more gas was used to compensate.
