odometer stops and starts working
i just noticed today on my way home from school that my odometer had stoped but after about 5 mins it started again. Then it stoped again when i went out later on and didn't start working since then. My speedometer works fine even when the odometer stops working. I thought the two were connected to run the same speed. Do i need a whole new cable, what could be the problem? would like the mileage to be accurate

It could be your cable, while its spinning, it may be slipping in and out of the speedo behind it or where it inserts to the transmission that may be causing this. Although i've never had a problem, I have replaced my speedo cable because of noise, and it did seem a little weak at those points. it may also be the actual speedometer that is screwed up also.

An 88 TA should have an electronic speedo. If I'm incorrect, the following link will provide the fix for a cable-drive speedo head:
