quick advice on dead car PLEASE

Well, I was bitchin about my car this morning and it got even this afternoon.

Out of nowhere it started running rough at a stop light, then died. Restarted for about a second, sputtered and died, same thing about 5 times.

Towed it home and now it's got nothing. Turns over normal...but no start.

Any ideas?

Thought I might have been out of gas, because it was lower than I usually let it get, but I put a gallon in and still no start.

I'd like to get it back on it's feet tonight so I'm accepting all wild *** guesses.

I'm thinking maybe ignition module.

Thanks in advance.

Ok first check your fuel pressure. I had similar problems and it was due to 21 years on the original pump.

I'll try that first, but I'm still open to other suggestions.

Guess what...0 fuel pressure. The pump isn't even running. Is there a fuse or relay I should check first.

There is a fuel pump test port on the rear passenger side of the engine compartment. Apply 12v+ to it and listen for the fuel pump to come on. If it doesn't then probe the fuel pump connector at the rear of the car above the rear axle(on the body) and then have a buddy apply 12v+ to the fuel pump test connector and check for power at the connector. If there is power at the connector then your fuel pump is bad and if not then check the relay.

well enjoy swapping you fuel pump. i had my taste of a red neck victory when i got the fuel pump out of a junk camaro, i cut out the carpet and tin snipped the floor right above the pump. I had it done in 10 minutes. but god has a sense of humor. As i was getting my tools i gashed my arm on the cut metal. Just what i get for molesting a third gen.

Where did you get the back cover/sunshade for the hatch? It may be factory on the car, or maybe i am just proving my ignorance! lol

Man this fuel pump change SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKS! I'm gonna be two evenings, at least, getting it done, and that's without any cleaning or painting of parts, which I usually try to do. The car looks like a bomb went off under the rear. At 50, I'm getting a little old for this.

Yeah it sucks. When it happened to me I had just filled up the tank. Murphy's Law I guess.

Good Job! If only GM would've installed an inline pump instead?
