Gas leak , beware when buying from scum...

Just thought I'd share this with people. I got my Camaro from a guy named Austin in Philly in August 2008. The car was in a bad shape, but I thought I'd restore it and have fun with it. Needless to say car overheated within 2 hours of me being its new owner... but thats another story.
The car would wreak of gasoline everytime I'd fuel up. I thought it was a bad gas tank cap, so replaced it. Still smelled really bad. I thought may be a fuel leak. But when the car was parked, and then moved, there was nothing on the ground. One day , I was driving uphill, after fueling up, and someone driving behind me told me that gas was leaking. I got out of the car , and saw gas pouring down onto my exhaust pipes... Not driping, pouring down literally. To make the long story short, the previous owner, cut the gas tank pipe (the one that goes to the cap) in half and put it together using a SPRING WATER bottle and some plastic bags!!!!!! So everytime the car was driving and shaking the gas would leak out. I attached the pics with the label on the bottle still visible. Tell me how messed up is that??? To sell someone a car knowing they car blow themselves up...

Wow i have to say not only is that one of the most irresponcable things ive ever heard of but also one of the worst, half baked, lacking of common sence repair ive ever seen. I cant believe the old owner actually drove it like that. Also even though its a used car from a privet seller to not disclose known information like that especially when it pertains to saftey i think is still illegal.

Is there some possiblity of filing a police report for this obvious disregard for the safety of the new owner?

HOLY HELL MAN!!! Be thankful somebody was kind enough to alert you to the leak. That could have ended very badly.

Re: Gas leak , beware when buying from scum...

If it makes you feel any better, when I purchased my car- same condition as yours and purchased for the same reasons- afterwards I found the timing chain has so much slack it could wrap almost all the way around the crank sprocket but due to some miracle firing order used it still ran, tpi wiring was attempted to be hooked up to a Qjet, BUT the entire steering wheel pulled off the column one day without warning while backing out of the driveway.

THANK GOD it wasn't the night before when I was driving around town. I was so close to going back over to the guys house and shoving one of my boots up his *** sideways.

On a side note, I found a bunch of tools and rolls of tape, and $5.73 in change under the carpet.

Moral of our stories- not everyone you purchase a car from had any business using a screwdriver on a doorknob.
