This is a non-thirdgen question but I figured someone may know what I need to do here. I bought a 4 barrel intake to replace the stock 2 barrel on my Chevy pickup. The intake was super cheap ($20) but has been sitting in a shed for several years. In that time it's got surface rust just about everywhere. I was able to clean the outside just fine with my DeWalt and a wire wheel. It's the inside I'm concerned about. How do I get rid of the rust on the inside of the intake?

 

It's not going to hurt anything, but you can pull some steel wool through it.

I've been reading about guys who use a water/molasses bath that does a good job with rust.

 

Cast iron? Use oven cleaner, and use it as if cleaning an oven with it. It will strip EVERYTHING off it. It will be very bare and very clean cast iron.

 

I'm not sure my wife would appreciate my intake in her oven. She IS working Sunday...

 

Tell her your cleaning the oven... you'll have a clean intake and brownie points in the end!

Man when I can find a way to powerwash rust off I will be a millionare,LOL.
