From the battery to the body then if you want add another from the same body location to your engine.
You won't regret it!

The large negative cable goes to the engine block somewhere - varies from model to model, engine to engine, and doesn't really matter. Mine bolts to the alternator bracket. Going directly to the engine makes sense since the starter is the biggest amperage draw of any part of the electrical system (unless you have a mighty big subwolfer amp
).
A small wire goes to the chassis. That's just to make sure you have some ground to the rest of the accessories. My '57 didn't even have that.

you better make sure that you have a ground from the motor to ground if not your dizzy and alt will try to find a ground.
I have seen throttle cables burn off because of no ground strap.

Yeah factory ground strap is on, the grounds 2 the back of the heads r on, just wanted to know where on the block the factory put the end of the neg cable, I know it really doesn't matter ground wise, just trying to put everything back as it was. I guess I'll just attach it where ever it reaches to..

On my '88 it is connected to the exhaust manifold stud shown below. The manifold is bolted on with the stud and then the P/S brace (removed for clarity) then the ground cable, then the nut.

Re: Where does neg battery cable bolt to?
That's where I bolted it to, except on the opposite side since my battery is on the other side of the car. That seemed to be the place it most easily reached to so I figured that's probably where it was from the factory. Thanks guys.
