89 Firebird Running Rough, White Plugs
Hey everyone, It has thankfully been a while since I have had problems with the Firebird, but now I am back.
The car is running rough when I accelerate, but idles fine and runs fine when I am holding a steady speed.
Fuel pump and filter are fairly new and Injectors are spraying nicely (TBI).
I pulled the 2 front spark plugs and they are both white and starting to blister. Plugs are AC Delco R45TS.
I am also getting a moderate amount of white smoke in the exhaust.
Engine is completely stock 305 with no visible leaks.
Ideas?

How's your coolant level looking? White smoke in the exhaust can mean a head gasket.

Coolant level is good. I've never seen a head gasket leak cause the spark plugs to overheat like this.

I was looking at the fuel injectors again and I guess they could be the problem. They are spraying in a pretty decent cone, but not quite how I think they should.
I'll check that out in the morning.
Until then, other suggestions would be appreciated.

white plugs can be an indicator of coolant in the system....is it all eight plugs??
white smoke is also a indicator of burning coolant.

also, it could be a head and or intake gasket leaking, which could also cause an air leak, and make the plugs run hot, but more likely is the coolant on plugs turned them white, and with white smoke, you have an internal coolant leak.

Re: 89 Firebird Running Rough, White Plugs
I was checking on the coolant issue. Found that there is a significant amount of rust in the coolant. And for some reason, the reservoir was not feeding to the radiator. Coolant level was low. I spent all day yesterday messing around with it.
If it is the intake manifold gasket, anyone know where to get a good quality replacement?
If it is the head hasket, anyone want to buy a car?

Any parts store should sell an intake gasket. Check Napa. Don't sell the car because of a head gasket or cracked head. You can remove and replace the top end in a day, two if you really take your time. If the heads cracked, the local u-pick lot will have a pair of chevy heads and they might cost you $50.
