timing chain?

hey, im a little confused on the whole timing chain thing, my motor had a double roller so i assumed id go that route but now im not sure

whats the best, summit has em all for 13-25 bucks

double roller vs single roller
true roller vs non-roller

summit vs cloyds vs comp
heavy duty?

also does summit make good gaskets? ive read good things minus that the kits come with cork oil pan and valve cover

Re: timing chain?

get mr gasket or felpro on the gaskets for sure.

on the timing chain, are you just replacing a factory chain or upgrading. If you go to a true double roller, a lot of times you have to trim the block jusst a bit. Cloyes is the best, followed by comp in my opinion. If you're not pushing a lot of horsepower, any should do.

Re: timing chain?

I'm not sure, it's a major manufactorer for sure, just like all their other parts, but's it might be a chaper line. Just to be safe I would spend the money on the known brands.

Re: timing chain?

Don't use a cheap chain set. They stretch like salt water taffy in not too many miles.

The least expensive chain set I've used that is actually a quality piece is the Summit true roller set that goes for about $30 (flat tappet style cam) or about $35 (factory roller style cam).

I always soak the chain in a pan of oil overnight before installing. Make sure it's well lubed before first startup.

Re: timing chain?

Definitely get a double row. there is a difference between the roller and flat tappet chain sets so watch for that.

I have a factory roller motor and I am running this one, also it fit under the stock cover.

I now have a pimptastic comp billet aluminum 2 piece now. A very small modification to the serp. bracket was required, but was able to be accomplished with out removing the bracket from the engine.

Re: timing chain?

my motor is a flat tappet, so a double roller timing chain is ok? also the "cheap" one i was refering to is a cloyd heavy duty 3 piece double roller, this is a good chain right?

any other input on the summit rebuild kit? with the summit gaskets and stuff
