thumpr cams

Hey guys I wanted to get your opinions or experiences and thoughts on the comp cam selection of thumpr cams. Was considering running them in my vortec motor.

Re: thumpr cams

I just put a 295h thumper cam in my bbf 472 the other day. Now i know this is not a sbc but I can tell you this cam is awesome. It has a very aggresive exhaust note which I love, spins to 7000 all day and still makes enough power in the lower rpm's to spin the hell out of some 38 inch boggers. Another pirk was It did not require any mods at all to run it.

Re: thumpr cams

The baby Thumpr has just about the perfect amount of overlap for best mid-range torque from a Vortec-headed 383. Assuming the roller Thump'r, of course. Non-rollers have no place in strokers.
If you're not going that route, you'll be giving up low-end for the sake of a sound that most people will interpret as needing fixed. Too many people already hate our cars, why make it worse? You're not gonna impress the Mustang guys, nor the ricers. It's too little return on too much investment.

So for my motor which will be stock except exhaust, intake and carb, a roller thumpr would be ok? I'm looking at making around 375hp at the motor. btw my motor is not a 383

Re: thumpr cams

If you want the lopey idle, the Thumpr is great. If you want mid-range torque, I can spec you something better. Want proof? Go see my sticky in the swap section, I've even put real dyno results in there.

Re: thumpr cams

Joe Sherman has used a few in some of his builds and was surprised at how well they performed. I was skeptical at first but apparently they are a very decent cam.

What do you recommend then? I will have the necessary work done to the vortec heads to accomodate whatever cam I go with. What should I pick then to get the most power out of my setup?
