Ant help would be appreciated, when in park my car idles nicely. but once i put it in gear the idle drops and if i hit the gas it wants to cut off. I am at a complete loss. the motor is a 350 bored .4 over with an aftermarket cam. or so I was told be the previous owner. (new carburetor edelbrock 750)

 

torque converter could be shot.

What is your ignition timing at?

 

did you put a new torque converter in?

 

the timing is 4 degrees off I think. and the torque converter came with the car. when i bought the car it came with two transmissions and 2 torque converters

 

When you say 4 degrees off, do you mean its set at 4 degrees? If so, thats not enough initial timing. Try bumping it to atleast 10 degrees. How big is the cam? If its a big cam, you may need even more initial timing. Having the timing that retarded would make the motor really week and the load of putting it in gear could kill the motor.

 

I will have to give that a try the next time i get a chance to work on the car. I dont know how big the cam is it was in the motor when i got the car. I am relatively new to working on cars.
