33 = high map signal/low vacuum
What is your idle vacuum?

You said you have MAF, if you do try changing the TPS up to at least .65, I used to have the same problem then found a post to change the throttle position sensor up to .65. TPIS also recomends this in their tech tips.

make sure your iac is clean and operating correctly, if that checks out, you can adjust the idle air screw on the throttle body, but remember to readjust the throttle position sensor back to.65. You should also disconnect the battery for a few min. to reset ecm. Also on the HOME PAGE go to tech articles and look at tps and iac adjustments. Make sure you have no vacuum leaks around throttle body or plenum and runners.

Re: i need help on fixing a code 33 on a 88 iroc 5.7
will do that today, i put the tps @ 6.3 and it seems to like it i also put a new maf and reset the ecm when i did the car ran better for about 4 miles then back to ****,when i say **** it all of the sudden starts to idel like crap almost like it's mis firing and starts running rich and smells so bad that it chokes me out from the smell,really its that bad lol if i turn it off and let it sit and restart it it will run different but i always get the same two codes first a 36 and it still runs ok then the 33 and it runs like **** im at a loss i really dont know what to do.

Re: i need help on fixing a code 33 on a 88 iroc 5.7
Whats happening is your car goes into "limp home mode", that's when the ecm doesn't like the codes it's throwing and then shuts down. You let it set for a time or reset the ecm, it runs fine then goes into the rough running "limp home mode" again. What you can also do is check wire 998 going to the ecm and make sure it's not going open. But what i found on my car was some bad vacuum lines under the plenum, and also raised the TPS to.65. I know this can be frustrating, but keep at it, you can find it. I'll check my resources and get you some web sites. After looking in my code book, looks like you have two problems. One, a code 36 is your maf burn off relay. That you should here a click after you shut off the motor, it burns off any impurities on the maf wires after you shut the motor off. The maf relay and burn off relay are two separate relays on your firewall by the brake booster. Also i hope you haven't removed the screens in your new maf, that is something that is needless to do, your maf will flow up to at least 400hp with the screens in. If there out, you can sometimes get a 33.Two, i would still try .65 on the TPS. I'll keep helping anyway i can. Just a thought, I see with the engine mods you have your base timing at 10, is that btdc? Your idle should come down with a lower timing. Base on a stock 350 is 6*btdc. CLAYTON
